DeleteHi, I am some what confused for such an intricate blanket would,nt it be easier to do each square separaely? Or are you trying to avoid that by changing from sc to dc on the same line? It seems like such small directions for such a beatiful blanket. I applaude your work it is beautiful but I may be asking for help. Thank you for sharing this. Shirl M
ReplyDeleteYour Welcome If you can do the first two Stripes it is easy going blanket. But the Front post Stitches through people off. Get past that it is a home run.
Deletei love the pattern.i am making it for a friend that is pregant and does not know what she is having so i am doing it all in white and will add the colored border after she has her baby. love the pattern....had to rip it out a few times till i got the hang of it...

ReplyDeleteI have had great success with this pattern. Although, this pattern is time consuming. The pattern is great because it gives the feel of a granny square afghan, but there is no stitching together. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteI've tried about five times to get this darling blanket started, but it's a no-go. The video is wonderful, but my problem occurs long before the video begins. I need help getting the pattern started, not ending the row. I come out with a perfect number of stitches, but posts lean terribly to the right. (I'm left-handed.) Sure wish I could figure out what I was doing wrong because I REALLy like this pattern.

DeleteHi, I am doing this blanket and I find it very pretty and had a problem with the "leaning posts". The leaning posts mean you are not picking up the stich in the row below in the right place. Also if you have stitches left over, it means that you are not being careful that the stitch in the row below counts as a stitch so in the row you are crocheting--you skip that stitch and move on to the next. It is very clear in the demo. Before starting this pattern, if you are a novice, I would suggest doing a practice swatch until you get the hang of it. It is such a wonderful pattern and works up quickly. Very satisfying. Thank you for posting this pattern and good luck to all on their crocheting journey. Lady Chain
Since you are left handed helps if you can watch the youtube video in a mirror instead of watching it directly then you will be able to see it done left handed.
i am doing this pattern, but just chained 32. gonna try to make a scarf. so far, so good. i noticed a lot of people say their fpdc rows are leaning to the left. not sure why this is, my only thought could be they are putting their sc 1 stitch too far over causing their fpdc to have too much "pull" or tension. i would suggest just doing a gauge, swatch, test pattern of 32 first. seems to work for me. thanks for the pattern!

DeleteDid the pattern the same way as directions but my finished width was 41". Do the stripes go horizontal or vertical? Since I'm not sure of the sex of the baby I crocheted using white and antique white and I'm very impressed with the way it is looking. Very happy I found this pattern - much easier to do than it looks.

No you are doing it perfectly right. section has 8 post and the when it changes it has 7 posts. the section that has 8 posts start with a FPDC then SC, as where the section with 7 posts starts with SC then FPDC. you are perfect.
DeleteHi, I like this blanket. Haven't started it, yet. I'm interested in enlarging it just a little. Not sure by what you mean by 15 plus 2 though for enlargement? Will you explain, please?
ReplyDeleteThe blanket is a multiple of 15 sts plus 2 more for turning purposes. so when you enlarge take off 2 stitches so you have 150 in the instruction add a multiple of 15 to the instructions however large you want to make it and add the 2 sts back on to the end. Does that make sense?
DeleteThe starting chain needs to be divisible by 15 then you add 2 chains to that for the end of rows. So where the pattern says Base: Chain 152 you could add 15 or 30 or 45 chains etc. Each 15 stitches makes one "square" in the pattern so I personally think it would be best to add 30 (or 60) chains so you get an even pattern of squares. I hope I haven't complicated this, good luck :)
ReplyDeleteThe blanket is made from a multiple of 15 sts if you want it bigger than you can add 15 sts. The +2 is for the turning stitch. at the end. If you want to make the blanket bigger add mult of 15 to 150 then add 2 sts to it for turning. But yes you have the right Idea. Also you can change the size of the blanket without changing instructions by using a larger yarn. Not to much larger or it turns out to be one BIG blanket.
Deletehave a question for you. i watch the vidio and read the instr. it shows in the vidio to skip a stich cause you are double crocheting. but it does not say it in the instr. and then you show for row23 to not skip a stich even though you are double crocheting. so i am a little confussed. do we skip a stich or what and why not to the other one then. thanks so much. love it. want to start as soon as you get back to me. emtscubagirl21@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteOK hopefully i can explain this so you can understand. You do not actually skip any stitches. When you SC, then Dc two rows below. When I say to skip that next sps it is because it counts as already being work from the Dc two rows below. I say skip it in the video because people view that as not being worked. It is not in the instructions because you are not actually skipping anything.Does that make sense?
DeleteHi Esther, I started working this pattern last night. I have a question. Does the chain one and the sc after the fpdc count as part of the 15 stitches in the single crochet section? I ended my 3rd row with only 5 fpdc in the last square and I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong.
ReplyDeleteMake Sure you watch the Video that has been provided that may help. I am not sure what you are asking. The Ch 1 is for turning purposes and the SC and the FPDC count as part of the 15 sts.

ReplyDeleteI recommend you to start with a small swatch to learn the pattern. I tried it several times and after watching the video all came clear. I think those of you, who are having leaning post problem, might make the double crochet stich in the row bellow, not two rows bellow like it shows in the video.

ReplyDeleteI'm so very impressed with this baby blanket pattern. Love that it looks like squares but you don't have to bind them together. I plan to make it ASAP. ReplyDeleteMy fpdc do not seem to be as connected as shown in pics of afghan although it is a straight line. Watched video and I seem to be doing it correctly. However, I tested putting the fpdc directly into the post of the previous row and it gives presents a more connected look. This is my biggest project yet and I intend to get it done . . . just love the look of this blanket. Thanks for sharing.
